Lake Superior Highlights

October 20, 2010

So apparently I am not a very committed blogger, as I have yet to update about our “real” adventures of the summer!! For our third anniversary (can you believe it??) John and I planned a five-day trip to the North Shore of Lake Superior. We had been to Duluth, Gooseberry Falls, and as far as Two Harbors, but were hoping to check out the beautiful town of Grand Marais. We rented a little cabin and spent our time hiking, kayaking, eating the World’s Best Donuts, looking for moose and wild blueberries, and just taking in the amazing, amazing views! They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here are some of my favorites.

We stopped at Split Rock Lighthouse and were able to climb up to the top. We decided we want to come back in the winter to see it with snow and ice!

This was my second time visitng the arch at Tettegouche State Park. I had seen it when I was in high school, and wanted to bring John back to visit. Ironically (and sadly) the arch collapsed a week later! I was glad we were able to see it just in time. Now visitors can see a lone pillar with a few trees on top!

We love kayaking. And I mean, we love kayaking!!

Our nightly view. So peaceful.

We loved the lake, the trees, the towns, the food, and the adventure. We think you would too, so come with us next time!
