A week in Ocean City

September 8, 2012

For our last hurrah of the summer, John and I went to visit John’s family and stay in their Ocean City, NJ condo for a week. Yes, we went to the Jersey Shore, but for those who haven’t been to Ocean City, it is definitely not like the tv show! Since no alcohol can be sold on the island, Ocean City is a much more family friendly vacation, rather than a spring break destination! We usually visit once a year, and we always look forward to lots of beach time and relaxation.

Picture beautiful beaches:

classic beach homes:

and a 2.5 mile boardwalk:

We spent some time each day doing some surfing, boogie boarding, and just swimming in the waves. John’s friend, Andrew, who recently graduated from chiropractic school, was already in New Jersey, so he joined us for two days of the trip.

Being at the beach sure brings out the fish in me!

One morning we rented a surrey and toured the boardwalk, dodging runners and bicyclists the whole way. Good thing Andrew was an aggressive driver and made good use of the bell!

And of course we indulged in the local fare. Every year we have the best apple cider donuts for breakfast, still hot from the fryer.

Manco and Manco Pizza–sooooo good!

And lobster, for the seafood lovers in the group.

It was so great to spend time with family, just catching up and having fun.

On our last day of the trip, we went kayaking in the bay. Even there, the wind and waves made for a much choppier kayak experience than I was used to, meaning we all got an excellent workout. Our kayak route took us through a number of islands in a wildlife preserve. It was an amazing tour to see birds: osprey, egrets, and ibis.

The trip really gave us the adventure AND rest we needed to finish up the summer right, and prepare us for the busy fall ahead! Until next time, Ocean City!

We really had a great time, too. Loved your photos – especially the last one of you and John taken on the balcony. Sweet smiles and sweet times!
